I came home last night to it completely off, and it would not turn on. If I unplug it, and then plug it back in, the power button glows red or more like Orangebut as soon as I push the button the light goes off and the NUC does nothing.
A couple months ago it seemed to be dead, although the symptoms were quite different, then all of a sudden it started working again for no obvious reason. Anyway, this time I have reseated the ssd and memory, tried a different power supply, and even pulled out the ssd and memory and plugged in, but the behavior is the same. As far as usage, ROCK has been perfect in terms of music flowing with no issues. It would be nice to be able to see the resource usage on the ROCK web page just in case something like that is happening.
ROCK is really lightweight and doing very little. This term does not mean what you think it means. This term is generally used to mean an out of order exception that occurs because two things are working in parallel and the programmer made assumptions of what would finish first.
This is counter to the spirit of ROCK. Thanks Danny. I was grasping at straws to explain what might have caused it.

My NUC lasted all of 4 hours before dying completely. No signs of life whatsoever. Well, I reassembled my NUC after disconnecting the battery and leaving it disconnected for a couple hours. Pressing the power button does nothing, no response from the NUC.
I am sure it is dead. I have a ticket open with Intel, so now I wait for them…. It arrived at Intel today. Hopefully it will be back in my hands soon. The reason I got the NUC was because I was having frequent skips in the middle of songs when the core was on Windows Maybe I will sell it or repurpose it, or bring it back as a rock anyway. Who knows. Just funny that, of course. Turning your ROCK, into a brick twice… not funny at all. Sorry, this should have had a corny-joke warning….

I've disconnected all other components and have narrowed the problem down to the CPU and the motherboard. I have re-seated the CPU i7 k along with thermal paste.
I have also cleared the CMOS. As soon as I power on the motherboard, there's a click noise and the red light turns on. Any ideas? The processor itself is NOT powered in Standby, so it is likely not responsible for the problem in this scenario.

If the light does not come on, then it is likely a power issue, in which case I recommend unplugging and re-plugging the power coming from the battery to the PCB, and the power from the PCB to the NUC. Tonight I checked the back of the PC to see if the Ethernet cable was loose, which it wasn't, but I did notice a red light and a yellow light on on the back of the NIC.

It also appears I don't have a regular NIC in the box.There was a big dustup a while ago about power failures killing SSDs. It turns out that when this happens, you can usually unbrick it. Yes, it really does take 61 minutes to revive a dead SSD, but you only have direct involvement for a few minutes. The rest of the time, you can do something else while you wait for the drive to do its thing.
Note that this trick generally only works for drives corrupted by power loss. The power cycle trick works better in a desktop PC, since you need to connect the power cable but not the data cable.
Or you can try the alternate method below that works on NVMe or M. Connect the power cable, but no data cable, to the SSD. The power cable is the larger of the two connectors. Turn on the power and leave the power on for 30 minutes. After 30 minutes, power down or pull the power cable. Wait 30 seconds, then restore power. Let the drive sit powered on for another 30 minutes. Power down again, then wait 30 seconds.
Of course, if you have an NVMe or M. Supposedly this trick can work without disassembling anything at all. Let it sit for 30 minutes at the BIOS screen, then power down for 30 seconds and repeat.
On a Mac, power up while you hold down the ALT key, which is supposed to pull up a boot menu. Let it sit at the boot menu for 30 minutes, then power down for 30 seconds and repeat. If your SSD suddenly died in a computer like that, you can probably fix it by shimming it with an old gift card.
Or feel free to try it first. And as a last resort, sometimes an SSD will overheat and break one or more solder joints. Once you get the drive working, you could still have problems that keep it from booting, so you may have to do some further data recovery.
All using free tools of course. Using one or more of the tricks above will restore your system to a bootable state and get your lost data back. There are no guarantees, and the trick sounds a lot like MacGyver or even witchcraft.
But this works often enough that many people now do it routinely. Unlike some data loss tricks we used to do with hard drives, this one does no harm. And aside from the power loss weakness, SSDs tend to outlive their advertised life expectancy. The right answer, of course, is to have backup copies so you can restore data from a backup if something goes wrong. I always recommend a desktop if at all possible.

It only takes a minute to sign up. First off, I use one of those micro SD cards that slides in to a small adapter that looks like a full sized SD, and it has always worked well in my Pi. I have an issue whenever I try to boot it up, a single red LED shows on the board and nothing happens, this is the same thing that happens when there is not even an SD card plugged in at all.
My temporary solution to this problem was holding the SD card to the board just as I plug it in, then when I see everything is working fine I just let go and it's good.
Then, if I so much as bump that SD card everything turns to crap and I have to reboot it. I really hope this is just a problem with the SD, which also has thin crack down the middle I have no idea how this happenedbecause I could easily replace it.
Although, the small crack down the SD card may not be a problem because everything is really stored on the micro SD card that just plugs into it.
But also, I'm lead to believe that it could be a problem with the Raspberry Pi because when holding it the SD card down, as I described before, it boots up fine until that card is moved. I did some research and apparently those small pins on the inside of SD card reader are broken easily.
So please, any ideas about what the issue is and how to fix it? It may be a problem with the SD card - the only way to tell is try another; they are cheap enough! If you search you will find suggestions on repairing the SD Card socket, although the contacts are rather delicate, so I wouldn't be poking at them unless necessary. The problem could be caused by a corrupt SD card. When switching off the Pi without following the standard shutdown process - not simply pulling the plug, rather performing the command sudo shutdown -h now - it can occasionally cause damage to the SD Card.
